Transport for London (TfL) has announced that the line’s night tube will return on Saturday 2 July after a two-year closure.
This makes the Northern Line the fourth line to reopen since after-hours services were suspended due to the coronavirus, after the Central, Victoria and Jubilee lines. The Piccadilly Line is expected to follow suit this summer.
London Mayor Sadiq Khan said: “This is another milestone moment in the capital’s recovery from the pandemic – great news for Londoners and tourists who want to enjoy the capital’s incredible nightlife, who Knowing they’re going to be able to get a northern home.”
However, the line has only reopened on pre-pandemic routes on the Edgware, High Barnet, Charing Cross and Morden spurs at night.
Mill Hill East, Battersea Power Station and Bank branches will not operate trains during night service.
First launched in 2016, the Night Underground gives Londoners 24-hour access to the tube on Fridays and Saturdays.
Nick Dent, Director of Customer Operations at TfL, said: “I am delighted that the Northern Line night tube service will resume on Saturday 2 July, further driving the recovery in the capital.
“Summer is the perfect time for Londoners and visitors to make the most of London, including its world-class nighttime economy.”
While usage of all services fell at the height of the pandemic, Transport for London has revealed that tube usage is now up to 72% of pre-Covid levels.
